The Ministry of Humbug

Terms

Last updated 5 November 2026. These are real terms, unlike everything else the Ministry issues.

Who we are

The Ministry of Humbug is a trading name of DUNK Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 05285457, registered office Stanway House, Almondsbury Business Centre, Woodlands, Bristol, BS32 4QH, VAT number GB135570321. You can contact us at hello@dunkdigital.com.

It's a joke

We sell novelty items. We aren't a government department and have no connection with any government or public body. Our certificates, licences, notices and Exemption Papers have no legal effect. They don't excuse anyone from anything, and they mustn't be presented as genuine to anyone in order to deceive them.

Your order

  • You must be 18 or over, and these terms are for buyers in the UK buying for personal use.
  • Your order is an offer to buy. A contract is formed when we email you to confirm it after payment. We can still refuse wording that breaks these terms, as explained below, and we'll refund you in full if we do.
  • Prices include VAT and postage to a UK address by the method shown on the page. Any extra for a faster method is shown before you pay. Standard post stops at its last order date, and from then until the last Express date, prices shown include Express post.
  • Payment is by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, taken by Stripe when you order.

Your proof

We print exactly what you enter and approve before paying, including any spelling mistakes. Colours on paper may differ slightly from your screen. The SPECIMEN mark on the preview isn't printed.

What you may enter

You're responsible for the words you submit. You agree that they:

  • are meant in good humour and aren't abusive, threatening, harassing, hateful, sexual or defamatory;
  • don't name someone who'd reasonably be distressed to receive this, or who has asked you not to contact them;
  • don't infringe anyone else's rights;
  • don't try to make the item look like a genuine official document, for example by adding real departments, debts, fines, court dates or demands.

We may hold any order for a person to review, and may refuse it and refund you in full if we think it breaks these rules.

Delivery

The dates, costs and places we deliver to are on our delivery and returns page. If we refuse to deliver, or delivery by a date was essential (because you told us, or it's clear from the circumstances) and we miss it, you can end the contract and get all your money back. Otherwise, if we're late, you can give us a reasonable further date, and end the contract if we miss that. We'll deliver within 30 days at the latest unless we've agreed otherwise.

Faults, returns and cancelling

Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 aren't affected: goods must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. Because each item is personalised, the 14-day right to cancel in the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 doesn't apply to it. For the print at home PDF and the phone pass, by ordering you ask us to supply it straight away and accept that you lose the right to cancel once it has been supplied. Details are on our delivery and returns page.

Exemption Papers

The phone pass comes free with printed and downloaded orders, or is sold on its own. Anyone with the link can see what's on it, so share it carefully. It works until 31 January 2027, when it's switched off.

The site and its contents

The designs, wording and site belong to us or our licensors. You may share and display what you've bought, but you may not resell it or copy our designs to make your own products.

Our responsibility to you

If we break these terms, we're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that's a foreseeable result of that. We aren't responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, for business losses, or for the social consequences of presenting your papers at the dinner table. Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't legally be limited.

The legal part

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you keep any mandatory rights where you live, and you can bring a claim in your local courts. We may update these terms, but the version in force when you ordered applies to your order.
